The University of Wollongong (UOW) Undergraduate Certificate in Science provides both a pathway into the study of sciences at the university level, as well as the opportunity to gain a foundational understanding of the molecular and physical world.

Through discipline-based studies in biology, chemistry, and earth sciences, students will emerge with new skills in critical thinking and scientific investigation, adding to their existing knowledge and/or broadening employability.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Science is accredited by the University of Wollongong (UOW) and delivered by UOW College Australia (UOWCA). Successful completion of this course will enable students to be considered for higher awards at UOW, such as a Bachelor degree, or further study with any of the Multiversity University partners.

Students graduating from this course will be able to:

Students commencing in the Spring (July) 2021 session will study the following
foundational subjects:

  • Living in a Molecular World
  • Planet Earth
  • Molecules, Cells and Organisms
  • Earth’s Interconnected Spheres


Professional, Scientific and Technical Services is projected to increase 10.2% in employment
growth in Australia from 2018 to 2023. This increase reflects ongoing strength and demand
for the services of qualified and highly educated workers. Studying the Undergraduate
Certificate in Science will help begin your path towards a range of careers in science,
including the following:

  • Biological scientist
  • biochemist
  • chemist
  • conservation biologist
  • ecologist
  • environmental assessor
  • geologist
  • geochemist
  • population analyst
  • regional planner.

Students who complete any four subjects in the Undergraduate Certificate in Science course with a minimum Pass grade (50%) result for each subject will be eligible for admission to the Diploma of Science with 24 points of credit. The Diploma of Science articulates into the following courses at the University of Wollongong with up to 48 credit points of advanced standing:

  • Bachelor of Science
